We don’t take reservations during our normal operating hours, however you can request a private reservation time if you have a group of 4 or more paddlers who would like to launch at either 10am or 6pm. Please text/SMS us to make this request at least 12 hours in advance.

Children 8 to 15 who are confident swimmers must only paddle solo under the direct visual supervision of a parent or adult guardian. Though they can be on their own board, they must remain within sight of the parent/ adult guardian at all times. They may be asked to remain within shouting distance of a guardian if weather conditions such as wind or storm clouds present a potential concern. Swimming competence for all minors ages 8 to 17, will be determined based on the LifeSaving Society Swim to Survive standards and a parent or adult guardian must verbally confirm the child meets these basic requirements. As of 2022, Swim to Survive standard included 2-minutes of treading water and the ability to swim 50m (two lengths of most municipal recreational pools) without floatation assistance.

Children under 8 must remain within immediate reach of an adult regardless of swimming ability. All non-swimmers under 16 must also remain within arms reach of an adult swimmer even though they will be required to wear a life vest during their rental time.

All adults participating in a rental must wear, on their body, one of the following:
A) a standard Canadian Coast Guard approved life vest using all the required buckles provided
B) an inflatable belt pack PFD that must be manually inflated to be useful (instructions with your rental).
Choice will be dependant on the adult’s self reported swimming ability and comfort with cold water immersion. Both these options are provided as part of every rental.

Non-swimming adults (those without reliable swimming abilities) may not paddle alone. Non-swimmers must be accompanied by at least one adult with strong swimming abilities on a paddle board or traveling alongside in another watercraft. We do not provide lifeguard services.

All participants must wear the provided SUP leash while traveling on the water and treat equipment with the utmost care and respect.

Peak times for rentals are generally between 2-5pm. Hot weather over 25C means demand for board rentals increases dramatically and parking in the Lake Edith/ Lake Annette area can become extremely limited to nearly impossible.

Parking in the Lake Edith/ Lake Annette area is limited. Large recreational vehicles are prohibited and the access road is narrow. If a holiday weekend is also over 25C, expect Parks Canada staff to close the parking area to further visitors once maximum parking capacity is reached.

Consider taking the SUNDOG shuttle to Lake Edith and present your shuttle ticket for a $5 discount which means we basically pay for your transportation! Better for the environment and way less stressful than navigating the challenging parking situation in July and August.

We recommend larger groups wanting more than 4 boards text/SMS us at least 24 hours in advance. Consider booking a private rental time outside our normal hours. Common private rental booking times are 9AM, 10AM or 6PM for groups of 5 or more boards.

We prioritize accessibility and aim to accommodate riders of all sizes and abilities. We have a couple smaller boards for independent little fishes who must be strong swimmers and at least 8-years-old to paddle alone. We have a single extra-large board that can support up to 400 pounds depending on the participants balance abilities. Participants are never required to stand; it is our goal to give you the instruction and confidence to try standing, but kneeling or sitting is still an enjoyable way to try SUP and explore Lake Edith.

In our rental fleet, we offer hard shell boards from Pau Hana Surf and Supply and high quality inflatable boards from Badfish SUP based in Colorado. Don’t hesitate to text or e-mail us in advance if you would like to try a specific product from either company. We’ll do out best to make it available.

At this time, boards must stay on Lake Edith. They may not be used on Lake Annette.

If you don’t like using map apps, here are the driving directions from downtown Jasper:
From Jasper townsite, head north-east on Hwy 16, turn right onto Moberly Bridge to cross the Athabasca River. Take the right hand fork towards Lake Edith/ Annette day-use areas (also towards the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge). Take your first left into the Lake Edith/ Annette day-use area via Lake Annette Rd. and follow that road for 1.5 kilometres. Park in the first horse-shoe shaped parking lot on your left hand side.

Frosty Sunrise Paddle Magic Photos by Alisen Charlten

Some of the best paddling experiences on earth can be found in Jasper National Park and other southern mountain parks like Banff, Kananaskis, Yoho, and Glacier. These photos are from a 6am solo stand up paddle boarding experience on iconic Moraine Lake near Lake Louise during a frosty 3C morning. Preparation and knowledge is essential for having an enjoyable time in the unpredictable climate of the Canadian Rockies and our classes can give you the skills necessary to be confident and safe.

"When I first tried stand up paddling, I thought the chances of falling in the water meant it would only be an activity for hot weather exploring. I was completely wrong. Some of my best experiences have been in cooler weather. After gaining some confidence in my balance, and by applying the outdoor preparation skills gained from hiking in Jasper’s mountain environment, I found that SUP is an all weather pursuit. It can be as simple as dressing appropriately, having a plan for accidental immersion (falling in), and having a warm-up plan for you paddle. The right plan can make a rainy day, one of the most enjoyable paddle experiences of your visit. In the mountains, it’s unpredictable weather days that offer a high probability of rainbows and glassy lake surfaces."
