17 REASONS WE LOVE STAND UP PADDLING?

Translucid Adventures

  • Accessibility! All body types, athletes and less athletic types, large bodies, those with mobility challenges, disabled bodied folks, and folks that use mobility devices on land have all come to experience floating on top of the crystal clear waters of a Canadian Rockies lake. Contact us by phone is you’d like details on how we can accommodate anything you think might limit your experience. The beginner stand for this activity is kneeling or sitting so standing is not a prerequisite to experience stand up paddle boarding.

  • The sport grows in depth and skill level along with each person’s interest level and desire to test their own boundaries. You can work you way towards Class 3+ whitewater exploring or multi-day ocean touring, and you can choose to use your SUP board as a giant floating dock for catching rays while you meditate on the serenity around you.

  • Creates an incredible whole body workout and cross training platform for balance .

  • You can bring your dog.

  • Family oriented fun for all ages that encourages swimming skills as a necessity for exploring further and more safely.

  • Low environmental impact and the satisfaction that you’re traveling somewhere under your own muscle power.

  • Highly social activity if you like to recreate with friends.

  • Core stability and ab strength are enhanced with each stroke if you learn proper form. Regular SUP folk have abs!

  • Standing on the water (rather than sitting) makes for a new perspective and incredible underwater views.

  • Jumping or diving off the board for a quick swim is much easier than in a canoe.

  • A stand up board isn’t a hollow watercraft so it will not fill with water when flipped.

  • Like a small floating dock which makes the perfect outdoor yoga mat or tranquil pencil sketching location.

  • Paddling on both sides of your watercraft can highlight and improve muscle imbalances between the two sides of the body.

  • There’s a lot of women and non-binary type humans who are embracing SUP as their sport so the community can feel very welcoming to all people who want to SUP.

  • Paddle sports in general are all about play. Sports like SUP come into being because innovators are always curious about what else is possible. This discipline is full of folks who think outside the box or pursue less conventional lives.

  • Culture of protection and enjoyment of natural places is ingrained in paddling communities.

  • Movement in the outdoors is good for our mental health and it’s common for people to have an easier time opening up to peers about their internal struggles while doing outdoor activities. Sharing our darkness with our friends during a paddle or a hike is a big part of mountain culture.

At Translucid Adventures, all our instructors are Paddle Canada certified. We’d be thrilled to guide you through the skills and instructor streams depending on your personal paddle goals.
